Program Overview

  • The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Equity Lecture was created in 2014 as a way to inspire our community to engage in campus dialogue, community engagement and civic education around topics of race and racism and their relationship to the vast health disparities we see in our society. Each year, nationally known speakers including scholars and thought leaders whose leadership, scholarship, perspective and viewpoints enhance our understanding and appreciation for inclusive excellence.m in medicine. The quote from Dr. King that guides the lecture, ‘Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.’ These words, spoken by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1966, during a speech to the Medical Committee for Human Rights still ring true today. In celebrating the life and work of Dr. King, we can also reflect on how his commitment to ending injustice can also apply to the work of eliminating health disparities within populations around the world.
